2018 Award Recipients

Spirit of America Winners

Heather Fuller (Appleton) -  Heather initiated assisting the Appleton Volunteer Fire Department with raising and lowering the American Flag in appreciation of holidays and unforeseen events. She recognized an area where help was needed and asked how she could help. Heather has selflessly given of her time to ensure the fire department's flag and other flags are flown as directed by State and National leaders.

Peg Hobbs (Washington) - Peg serves as Co-Chair of Washington's Recreation Committee, was instrumental in the completion of an equipment building at a local ball field, and helped put a fence upon the soccer field. She also weeds the garden at the library and started a Monday morning walking group.

Robert Hoppe (Rockport) - Robert was on the Rockport Volunteer Fire Department, and served on the Rockport Recreation Committee for five years. He currently works for the Town of Rockport, taking care of the Recreation Park on West Street. Robert opens the Recreation Park up every morning and closes it every night and makes sure it always looks clean.

Michael Thompson (Union) - Michael has served the youth of Union by being a part of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.  He has coached and served the Union Little League, Union Minor League and Union T-Ball for many years. Michael is being recognized for his great achievements and honor that he has brought upon this Community with the 2018 Union Spirit of America Foundation Tribute

Michael "Mike" Voncannon (Owls Head) -  Mike is being honored for her commendable service to the Owls Head Community.  She has worked tirelessly in her role as Chair of the Owls Head Cemetery Committee, including strong leadership in identifying long-forgotten cemeteries, heading clean-up and restoration efforts and being a strong advocate for the identification, care and decorating of Veterans' graves. Mike has given her time and expertise to the Owls Head Ordinance Committee, including the writing of two ordinances. Mike also continues her involvement by helping in many other Community activities, including the Owls Head Fire Department and Mussel Ridge Historical Society. She has been the dependable "go-to" person since moving to Owls Head 10 years ago, and in doing so continues her longstanding volunteer efforts elsewhere in both Wisconsin and Virginia. It is with  gratitude and sincere appreciation Michael "Mike" Voncannon is being recognized for her exemplary citizenship, leadership and achievements in our Community.
